On 26 September 2025, Samoa Immigration marked the handover of an upgraded Border Management System and new equipment from the International Organization for Migration (IOM), made possible with support from the Government of Japan.
The upgraded system brings integrated passport issuance, stronger citizenship management and a new online visa application platform, along with improved case management and alert functions. Samoa Immigration also received new workstations, passport scanners, document examination tools, uniforms and seaport equipment.
